13 weeks: We heard the heartbeat!

Weekly updates are just not possible this time around...I have found that I don't have the time or energy to take photos, upload them, and write a blog post...plus in my defense not a lot changes from week to week. I have been having a lot of mama guilt about my lack of effort with baby #2 so I have decided that I will post updates on the weeks that we have doctor's appointments. I love going back and looking at the updates with Benny so I know I would regret it if I didn't do anything at all.

How far along?
13 weeks

How big is baby?
A lemon
 ~2.91" and ~0.81 oz

Weight Gain
I'm currently up 3 lbs from my first doctor's appointment, but I am the same weight I was when I got pregnant with Benny. Apparently I had lost a few pounds before getting pregnant...who knew :)

What's baby up to this week?
Baby is forming vocal cords and teeth this week...and he/she already had fingerprints. Baby's intestines are moving from the umbilical cord to their more permanent place, in the tummy.

Symptoms?
I am counting my lucky stars this go around, because it has been a much easier go than it was with Benny. With Benny I had 24/7 nausea, lots of dry heaving, and occasionally throwing up. Over the last few weeks my nausea has decreased, no dry heaving or throwing up. I find that I still get nauseous on occasion, but it's only if I go too long without eating.

I'm still pretty tired, but having lots of snow days and days off school has helped so much. Not having to get up early in the mornings and rush around has been SO nice!

Other than the fatigue I have been feeling pretty darn great...which has been such a nice change of pace from the first go around.

Maternity Clothes?
Nope, I am still comfortably wearing all of my normal clothes...although in the last week I can definitely feel and a little bump (mostly at night) They say your uterus moves out from behind your pelvic bone around 12 weeks, so I am guessing that is what it is. I have also heard that you show sooner with your second...but that doesn't seem to be the case for me...yet.

Sleep?
Sleep has been great since the first sonogram. I have felt so much less anxious and worried. I fall asleep really easily. I do wake up a few times in the night to go to the bathroom...but fall right back asleep.

Missing Anything?
Is it weird to say work? I have loved having extra time with Benny on all of these snow days...but it can stop any time now. I feel like we are just getting hit with winter storm after winter storm...and being stuck inside with an almost 2 year old has been rough. All he wants is to go outside and run off some energy...cabin fever is in full effect!

Craving?
Nothing really specific. I definitely prefer desserts and sweets...and candy, oh the candy! Since I had gestational diabetes last go around I am fully expecting to have it again. Luckily, I still have my blood sugar meter and have been checking my sugars on occasion and things still look good...so I will enjoy my sweets while I can :)

Aversions?
It's not really an aversion, but I haven't been too crazy about water. I usually drink quite a bit, but lately I am having to force myself to drink more water.

Emotions?
These last few weeks have been pretty good. I am a little more weepy and emotional than normal. I am constantly crying during TV shows, commercials, and books.

Movement?
None yet, but I am anxiously awaiting the day! I have heard that you feel them sooner with subsequent pregnancies, so fingers crossed it's soon!

Best Moment(s)
Hands down hearing the heartbeat at our appointment. The anxiety of these first weeks is finally behind me. I of course have the normal (or maybe not so normal) mom anxieties...but nowhere near the worry that comes with first trimester.

Pregnancy Brain Moments
I'm not sure I ever recovered from being pregnant with Benny...so my scatterbrainedness seems pretty normal :)

I do tend to misspeak or have more trouble finding the right words when I am pregnant...the other night I was talking about Patrick Manning...and after I said it I knew it wasn't right and I could not for the life of me come up with the correct name. Finally AJ was like "Do you mean Peyton Manning?"

Looking forward to?
Spring break! My mom, Bennett, and I are driving to Ohio over spring break to see my grandpa. I am not looking forward to the long car drive with a 2 year old...but I am kind of relieved we aren't flying this time. Flying can be a little stressful.

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
Nope! We probably won't buy much since we still have all of Benny's stuff. We are going to start looking at big boy beds for Benny over the next few weeks, and slowly start the transition to his big boy bed and his new bedroom. Hoping to do this well in advance of baby being here so Benny doesn't feel like baby took his room or his crib.

Running?
Eh...lack of energy and the snow and ice forcing me to the treadmill has been kind of a buzz kill. I did run 6 miles on the treadmill last weekend and while it wasn't easy, it wasn't totally impossible either. I was second guessing my decision to run a half marathon in April..but I am thinking I will be okay...plus it will keep me motivated.

Big Brother Moments
This kid has been so much fun these last few weeks. His little personality just seems to grow and grow each day. The things he says and does keeps us laughing all day every day. He is also eating and sleeping like a champ these days and this mama is oh so grateful! On our snow days and days off work he will sleep (or lay in his bed) until after 8:00 and then take a 2 1/2-3 hour nap...it's like he knows I need the extra sleep. Thank you sweet boy!
