NYE 2012

Last year for New Year's Eve I joined my friends Sarah and Brandi and 23 other people whom I had never met. This was my first "what the heck...why not?" of 2011 and let me just say that was one of my best decisions from last year. Not only did I have a great NYE, but I met an amazing group of people who are now some of my closest friends. So, there was no question what I was going to do for NYE 2012!

I'm going to be lazy and just let the pictures tell the story of the night :)

Starting the night out at Jess and Bob's with these 2 gorgeous ladies!

Rumor has is Bob and I always take good pictures together...we are convinced it's just because we are both so pretty ;) lol! However this picture kind of ruined our streak...open your eyes Bob!

A little better...I think our streak of good pictures might be over

I'm so glad I met this girl last year...she not only keeps me laughing at all times, she is also one of the kindest, most caring people I know!

Party bus time! Here are just some of the random pictures taken throughout the night...

Another sucessful NYE...Couldn't ask for a better way to wrap up 2011 and begin the adventures in 2012 :)

One Year Later...

I have been having a terrible case of writer's block on this particular post. I feel like one year later I should have something profound to say...and honestly I just don't. I'm terrible with the mushy gushy reflective type stuff...so bare with me on my disjointed post, and please pretend that I am able to accurately communicate a deep and meaningful message ;)

Last year for the first time ever I made a New Year's Resolution. I had never made a resolution before just because it never seemed important to me and let's be honest...I would have never stuck to one of the cliche resolutions. Last year however, I was going through a transition period in my life. Lot's of things had changed and I was struggling with who I was and what I wanted out of life...and being a particularly private person I can't even believe that I am admitting that right now...but "What the heck...why not?" I truly felt that opening myself up to new experiences, pushing my limits and getting out of my comfort zone was exactly what I needed.

As I look back through the all of my posts and think about my life a year ago it's hard to believe how much I have truly changed and learned about myself through a New Year's Resolution that started out as somewhat of a joke. One year later I can confidently say I am happy...happy with my life, happy with my friends and family...and most importantly happy with myself and the person that I am...I can say with confidence that my resolution was a success. Not only did I overuse my saying "What the heck...why not?", post ridiculous blogs, and make amazing memories but I also found me :)

Black Friday

Every year we spend Thanksgiving with the family in Illinois. We always have turkey, watch lots of football, my aunt steals the neighbors papers for coupons, somebody usually stays up all night or gets up really early to go shopping...you know all the things a normal family would do. The only activities I have ever chosen to participate is eating massive amounts of food and watching football. I am not a big shopper on a regular day, let alone on Black Friday. My job has always been to stay home with the kids and get them up and ready to go see Santa....MUCH later in the day!

Well, after returning from yet another newspaper run my Uncle Shane was thrilled because Target didn't have a line outside yet and he just HAD to go! There was a TV my Uncle John wanted, Ipod touches for the kids, and so many other great deals that he just couldn't pass up! At this point I am sitting on the couch watching the madness that is my family getting together the necessary "supplies" for the all evening stake out and I thought to myself...what sane person would pass up the opportunity to sit out in the cold and wait for 6 hours to get into a Target? I then stood up  and told my Uncle Shane I was coming with him (obviously I wasn't thinking clearly or someone had spiked my drink) As everyone looked at my in shock I just shrugged my shoulders and said "What the heck...why not?"

After getting everything together we were walking out the door my grandma came up to me really quietly with a Target ad and a $5 bill and said to me "if you get a chance could you pick up these Hello Kitty underwear in a size 5?" Ummm....YES!! I needed a reason to sit in the cold for 6 hours and this was it!

Loaded down with all the necessary supplies

Before we headed out I informed my Uncle Shane that he was about to be the subject of one of my blog posts and he needed to prepare for LOTS of pictures! He was such a good sport about it!

6pm- we had just arrived and secured our ever important place in line. We managed to be 12th and 13th. We of course made friends with everyone around us and when they asked us what we were waiting in line for Shane told them Ipods and I said "Hello Kitty underwear...they are only $5 isn't that a great deal?" I wish I had gotten pictures of the shocked looks I received!

7pm-It is COLD...and I am beginning to regret my decision!

8pm

9pm-At this point my Aunt and mom had brought us turkey sandwiches, chips, and cookies and we were taking turns eating them in the van! It was cold!!

10pm-While I stayed put in my chair not daring to leave my blanket of warmth Shane walked around checking on our competition!

11pm- My aunt came up one last time to bring us coffee and hot chocolate before the madness began. At this point I began to question my sanity...oh and where to find a bathroom!!
This was about 11:45 and we were waiting to get in the store...I still cannot believe it! A cop car showed up and pulled up onto the sidewalk to block people who weren't in line from getting in the store!

Once we got into the store it was pure madness...I felt like I was on an episode of SuperMarket Sweep. We grabbed a TV which was thankfully already in the cart, headed straight for electronics and grabbed the Ipods. After we made sure we had the important items (including the Hello Kitty underwear) we walked around the store and I was in complete shock at the people and the aggressiveness. I don't love to shop, and I especially don't love to shop during the holidays when it is busy...so as you can imagine I was in paradise!

Black Friday was everything I expected and so much more, I can't say that I will go again...but what I can say is I DID get the Hello Kitty underwear, so my mission was a success!

Monday Night Football!!

Since 2011 is over and technically my New Year's Resolution has been fullfilled I figure I better get all of my blogs completed, so I can get started on 2012! I had high hopes of finishing up over winter break, but as always I can't ever seem to get my act together...I will attempt to get caught up in the next week or so but... no promises ;)
Alright, so those of you who know me, know that I am very tight with my money and I also need ample amounts of sleep. So when Brandon sent out the e-mail about the MNF game, I had to think twice. It was more than I usually like to spend on a football game and it was on a Monday night...and let's be clear, this wasn't just any Monday night...it was Halloween. So not only was I going to have a VERY long day at school prior to the game, I was going to have a very hyper group of 3rd graders the next day! After careful deliberation, I decided "What the heck, why not?" and decided to spend a little money and give up some of my ever cherished sleep!

The school day of course drug on, but it was definitely worth the the wait! The weather was beautiful, the tailgating was as always a blast...even with pineapple brauts (BRANDON!!) and we were able to see a great game (which has been a rarity with the Chiefs!)

Tailgating in "Lot Middle of Nowhere"

Another shot, because let's be honest we can never have too many :)
Our traditional tailgating picture...without this guy I would have missed out on a lot of fun events this year...however I would also have more money!

My cousin Chris moved here from San Diego in October...and after dragging him to a game earlier in the season it was easy to convince him to join us...as long as I let him bring this creepy mask!!

What a...cute couple?

I couldn't quite understand this guy's costume...I am assuming he was a broom, but I guess I just don't get it...lol!

GO CHIEFS!!!

After overtime and sitting in the parking lot for what seemed like HOURS waiting to get out I didn't get home and in bed until after one o'clock! Needless to say Tuesday was a rough day....but the good news is my kiddos were also exhausted from trick or treating all night!

Two weddings, one weekend :)

I love, love, LOVE weddings....friends, music, food, and booze are the perfect recipe for a good time in my books :) I was lucky enough this fall to have 3 different weddings in 2 weekends...and one of the weekends I was fortunate enough to be a part of 2 weddings. While this isn't a typical "What the heck, why not?" because there is not chance in the world that I would have said no to either one, I do think it is quite an accomplishment to have 2 weddings AND receptions in less than 48 hours and survive ;)

Wedding #1: My beautiful friend Lauren

Through the wedding process I was lucky enough to meet Marley and Kelli. Lauren is incredibly lucky to call these two her friends and now I am lucky enough to call them friends as well :)

We know how to have a good time...with or without wine ;)

I've always been incredibly jealous of Lauren's dance moves...during the father-daughter dance I witnessed exactly where she learned to dance :)

I included some pictures from Lauren's photographer...this one happens to be one of my favorites. Jumping in heels is not exactly the easiest thing to do...I can't believe I was able to walk away from this experience.

The best wedding party ever :)

This pose was what I call "scary" Trent wanted to pick Kelli and I up, this took a little assistance, and LOTS of grunting (quietly calling us fat) before we were able to get this gem of a picture :)

Wedding #2: Kristen and Brendan; my first experience as a personal attendant. I was a little worried about doing my job correctly, but the good news is Kristen is overly organized and I didn't need to worry about missing one thing :)

We definitely know how to do weddings ;)

After taking lots of "couple" pictures I got tired of waiting for my date George Glass so I posed by myself :)

As always Amy saved the day...

I love my friends :)

Brendan is a lucky guy :)

One of the best parts of the wedding was the mashed potato bar!

There are times in my life when I realize how lucky I really am...after this weekend of wedding chaos I was truly reminded how blessed I am :)

Go Cyclones!!

Since nearly 75% of my friends are from the great state of Iowa, I have been one by one checking off the "must sees" of the state. This year it was decided that I needed to see an Iowa State football game. However, it couldn't be just any game it had to be the Iowa State vs Iowa game. I don't know much about Iowa State football...but it was clear to me the minute we arrived that this was going to be a BIG game!

Saturday morning we started VERY early...and since I didn't have my own Iowa State shirt...Erin let me borrow one of hers!

You can't tailgate without mimosa's, and despite what you might think, I had only had one tiny sip when disaster struck. I spilled...which really isn't all that suprising if you know me ;)

I like to surround myself with extremely tall people....

Half-time

Half-time performance

At one of my other Iowa adventures we went to the Iowa State fair where I witnessed a woman using her purse to protect herself from the rain. Apparently it is a growing trend...this woman was using her program to block the sun.

During triple overtime Erin was not breathing...at all ;)

CYCLONES WON!!!! I have been to my fair share of sporting events, but this was by far one of the most exciting, amazing games I have ever witnessed!

After the game Erin and I decided to head out for a little college fun...this is where we discovered we were OLD period.

A little reunion time with my favorite drinking buddy was also a highlight of the weekend :)
